Anyway

1: Parcel

Wrapped in paper
sealed and glued
a label written
goods included
changing hands
paying fees
status checked
"sign here please"

And off
off it goes
it's out
out of my hands

By trains and planes
by boats and roads
all stacked up
among heavy loads
from port to port
from gravel to tar
at your destination
that's where you are

out
out for delivery
stripped
showing what you have inside
subject
to measurements and tests
then packed
and send right back again

sometimes I fear
you'll never getting here
sometimes I fear
they'll never bring you here

tripping the streets
on careful feet
avoiding the headlights
keeping discreet
anxious and weary
of what you might get
will it be allright
or disaster instead

2: Sleepwalking

I saw you standing there
on the threshold of you sleep
dazed and confused you seemed
staring into the deep

close both your eyes and see
it all becomes so clear
just walk on straight ahead
be aiming at the pier

Into the void you face your fear
you're screaming you lungs out
but noone will hear
your world is a beauty but it isn't real
you're sleepwalking baby
on a tightrope of steel

there was a little man
at least that was his name
he had a crazy plan
that made him rise to fame

Above the big apple
he was walking in the air
From the ground he looked so small
as if he wasn't there

Into the void you face your fear
you're screaming you lungs out
but noone will hear
your world is a beauty but it isn't real
you're sleepwalking baby
on a tightrope of steel

Phillipe didn't fall to his death
but I saw the towers did

3: The Trench

Should I take these tablets
that make things go away
Should I be pretending
my nerves doesn't fray

Should I smile politely
Should I really care
I lock myself away
I am going there

We're going down together
Descend into the darkness
this deep is vast and unseen
we'll be the first ones there
And as the ship submerges
Anxiety emerges
the pressure's building up and
the vessel's going down

the trench
is deep and wide
but noone else
has gone inside
and now we're off
the deepest dive
a man has tried
down to a place so
unknown

Swallowed up completely
the blackness of the sea
Like falling into sleep
the undiscovered deep

down and down I'm sinking
like a stone I'm gently hurled
beyond abyssal depths
to the bottom of the world

We're going down together
Descend into the darkness
this deep is vast and unseen
we'll be the first ones there
And as the ship submerges
Anxiety emerges
the pressure's building up and
the vessel's going down

the trench
is deep and wide
but noone else
has gone inside
and now we're off
the deepest dive
a man has tried
but I've succeded
And I

Return again

Return again
to the surface
like bubbles of air
I'm ascending
Return again
to the surface
Relieved of all
my worries

4: Garden of Exile

Before
the nightfall
Before
we surrender to sleep
We have
to remind ourselves
Of what
it is we're doing here

Vast is the desert
Lonely the dunes
A crowded bus with myriads
of people in different moods
Bumping past
an endless scenery
A deserted desert village
or what it appears to be

On and on
from dune to dune
We'll get to nowhere fast
we'll be there soon
Yes on and on
from place to place
for no apparant reason
to embrace

Drinking
tea from ornamented cups
served by men in kaftans
or djellabas by the Atlas'
Music is played
on every corner of the street
the rhythm makes me dizzy
in this unbearable heat

Mercenary troops
are marching by
with their epaulettes and kepis
determination in their eyes
We're off to a plateau
to see the full moon rise
this garden of exile
appears before our eyes

We lay in the Moroccan sand
doing things we know they have banned
And underneath the sheltering sky
you asked me the devastating 'why'

The coldsweat's darkening your shirt
your eyes have turned red
And your panting
is hard to endure
A desert bug is digging in
it lives in your blood
And the dust is not much of a cure

A desert rose in perpetual bloom
A sun scorched remedy for gloom

5: The Invention

Why won't it work
Why won't it ever work
I got to carry on
I got to carry on

I'll try again
I'll try and try again
Until I get it right
Until I get it right

I know I
can create light
without spark
and without flame
a type of light
that's burning bright
and lasting long
oh so long
Got this picture
in my head
of a day
it would be said
'electric light
is just so cheap
that only rich folks
have candles lit'

Ok let me see
what have we got here
a coiled up filament
connected to some wiring
all is placed within an
evacuated bulb
I will make it shine
illuminate this lab of mine
for this experiment
I'm using platinum
it should be working right
it's melting point is very high
I switch the current on
the metal starts to glow
but evaporates
I still can't make it work

So I'm here again
testing filaments
this time using strings
of carbonized cotton wool
it sounds improbable
that this could make it work
but I have to try
every possibility
my incandescent dream
has put me to the test
but if I don't succeed
I won't be getting any rest
a glass bulb standing on my desk
with carbon coiled within
I switch the current on
and now my room is ablazed

Look at the light
Look at the light

6: Cloudberries

The dawn will never come
if the sun refuse to set
there's daylight round the clock

there's diamonds in the stream
tinkeling in the breeze
way beneath our feet

Don't you walk too close
the cliff is much too sheer
you should watch your step

And as we're climbing here
the scenery unfolds
I will come to you

I'll find you
I'll find you
I'll find you
whereever you might be

In marshlands and in bogs
in rain and wind or fog
through the gate
to the wilderness I'll walk

Tomorrow brings another day
to sweep the yesterday away
and maybe then I'll make it all the way

But time flies (and I struggle ahead)
Yeah time flies (there's only you my head)
But time flies (Away)

in a hidden valley
surrounded by mountains
I found what I came here for

in amber like fashion
in numbers of thousands
just waiting to be picked

the fruit of my efforts
is worth all my trouble
now I'm here and on a cloud

7: Euphoria

I feel so excited
now that all this weight
is off my shoulders
I feel like
a new born child
in mothers arms
filling the lungs with air
for the first time
And I was blind
so blind
but now I see
I got this feeling
of no boundaries

And from here
it can only get better
The world's my oyster
and I can do anything I want
I want it all
I want it all

Today the sun is beating down
and not a cloud up there
to shade this town
and I will walk around
in sunlit streets
and when the nighttime comes
I'll stay outside
to watch the starry sky
until the sun comes
up again and then I know

that from here
it can only get better
The world's my oyster
and I can do anything I want
I want it all
I want it all

all aligned
in perfect symmetry
come along
set me free

8: Blue Sky Café

I've dreamt of this for ages
gliding through the air
Above the clouds in sunlit blue sky
a stratospheric fair

At the tar pitched runway
I've got sweaty anxious hands
waiting for the winch to fling me
up into the heavens

Fly

The thermals and the lee waves
will keep me soaring here
As a ridge lift takes me higher
I'm sheding all my fear

The altimeter settles
Up here the world is bliss
towards the open ending
my dream is made of this

Fly
the wind will take me high
into the open sky
my mouth has all gone dry
the thrust will make me fly
the wind will take me high
into the open

The sky is blue
I'm flying through

9: The Glow and its Shadow

Day turns into night
night turns into day
then night again
Haven't had alot sleep
haven't had alot food
just water

there must be more than this
this pitchblende mystery is really
exciting me
and while I'm at work
Raindrops are falling
from the leaking roof
of the shed

I worked for days months and weeks
in the smallest quantity of matter
was where I seeked
finally my work was done
and like a fairytale
a blue light now vaguely shone

kept on working
without knowing
that this faint glow
had a shadow
that this substance
from a distance
changed the concept
of my being

What is this
What is this this this
feels so strange
shooting out of light

now the path is clear
now I'll cry no tear
now I'll leave you here
now It'll disappear

10: Where are you now?

where are you now
where have you been
I've been looking for you
everywhere

I have been sailing
all the seven seas
I've climbed all mountains
in the world

but what have I found?
what have I found?

where are you now
where will you go
where should I be searching
for you now

should I go to all four
corners of the world
should I cross the deserts
in my search

and then what will I find
what will I find

Eyebrow goes up
turns into frown
so much searching
what have I found
